KML:A KLM file is a single, recognizeable file that acts as an "overlay" onto a virtual Google Earth map. Many times, people will create these files to highlight changes in the landscape or as a way to showcase the results of a study.

KMZ:A KMZ file is much like a .ZIP folder that carries two or more KML files. When downloaded, the KMZ files will all open at once and overlay themselves into the Google Earth Map.
